Translation for Skyward Sword’s ‘Iwata Asks’ Finally Released

A fan finally came forward with a translation for the Iwata Asks posted on the official Japanese site- the video and translation can be four in this article.

However, as noted in the article, the translation is pretty rough, if not outright muddled, so I’ve attempted to.. Refine the translation, to be more easily understood.

Note that since much of Iwata’s and Miyamoto’s meaning was originally lost and the translation only gives a good feel for the direction the conversation was taking, I’ve had to improvise a bit, going so far as to fill in the gaps with information taken from other interviews, not present in this one. I hope you all can forgive me for any liberties I’ve taken:

Iwata: “How different would Zelda be with Wii MotionPlus?” This was the question that occured to all of us when the project for Wii MotionPlus started 5 years ago. And 5 years later… [Laughs]

Miyamoto: [Laughs] Yes, I believe that the past 5 years have been put to good use. I don’t know if the production cost has been Nintendo’s highest, but we’ve certainly been spending quite a lot on this project, and that funding has been used to pioneer levels of ingenuity and intuitiveness unheard of to date.

Iwata: So it was built without losing focus on creativity, and also with an eye on ingenuity. And I get the impression that this Zelda isn’t about creating a world of vast reaches of space, but with great density?

Miyamoto: This time around in Zelda, each area has a variety of different puzzles and content, so it doesn’t have quite the same feel that dungeons have had in the past… It’s a difficult concept to explain. In the past, you’ve played in a confined area where you were presented with challenges and enemies, and then you moved on. We’ve now refined the areas so that, each time you come back to a location, you’ll find something else to uncover, something new that makes it unique. [Sorry, I had quite a hard time making heads or tails of this whole paragraph; the original translation was particularly muddled here.]

Iwata: So the idea was taken from Majora’s Mask to create a more densely rich world, with depth, with the focus on going back to each area multiple times to see something new, rather than having large, empty areas that may only serve a single purpose. And you were able to base the game around a system like this successfully?

Miyamoto: Yes, so it’s a grand world, yet it certainly fills that role. Classic Zelda is actually a bit clunky when it comes to controls, what with having to remember which action is set to what button and so forth. And yet with Skyward Sword we believe we’ve improved this system a lot. I won’t say it’s seamless, but it’s now much easier to switch between the different items on the fly, once you stared playing it. Also, you’ll use multiple items simultaneously in your pack, but you’ll be able to use most of them simply with the ‘A’ button, rather than having three or four buttons to focus on. In past games, using different buttons could have confused the player, so that may have been a mistake, but now that the control scheme is streamlined, we hope that it will run a lot smoother. Once you get used to it, it’s quite comfortable.

Iwata: Now, both Mario and Zelda are going to be sold at the year’s end- you’ll be able to play both titles?

Miyamoto: Yes, we were able to get both titles out on time.

Iwata: I’m looking forward to seeing them both.

I MUST DO THIS WHEN I RETURN TO MY BAT CAVE!!!!!!!! :3

As cool as this is… Nope, not enough cheese..

I love seeing something like this, and feeling all smug, like, “Heh. I blogged this like six months ago.”
And then I remember that it’s just an online hobby that I couldn’t even explain the significance of to many of my friends.. And my head deflates immensely.
Still, though. Cheeseforce forever.

Rumors Leaked to Zelda Informer, on Skyward Sword’s Plot

Zelda Informer has had a source contacting them anonymously occasionally, feeding them potentially leaked inside information and rumors.

The odds that these rumors are true is very low, but inside information has been obtained early in this manner in the past, including regarding the Wii U.

Remember, these are only rumors, but here is the latest batch:

-.-.-.-

[WARNING: POTENTIAL (UNLIKELY) SPOILERS AHEAD]

-.-.-.-

• The final boss and figure in the intro video is in fact a Giant Piglike Demon, in similar look to the original Ganon.

• The name of this beast is apparently Elaiamaz and he is massive.

• After defeating Elaiamz, he is banished to his trident.

• The fight starts out above the clouds because Elaiamaz is searching for the triforce.

• You will be defeating him using a rainbow stab ability with the Master Sword.

• The rainbow stab ability contains a golden light.

• You will be using this light to shine on his face, which makes him fall off the sky island.

• The demon falls down to the land below, and you’ll be following him directly by using the skydiving ability.

• On Hyrule’s surface, you will be fighting him more directly with actual sword attacks. You will repeat this until he goes into the sky once again.

• Zelda is playing the Goddess Song constantly throughout the battle to keep hiding the triforce from sight, and in doing so she summons the Goddess herself. The Goddess eventually banishes Elaimaz to the trident.

• According to the source, the fight is apparently one of the best boss fights he had experienced in any game to date.

What d’you lot think of these rumors? Gold or gunk?

Leave me an ask or comment here, aye?

Hey guys..
What if Volvagia makes an appearance in Skyward Sword? He is pretty ancient in Ocarina of Time, not to mention that the temple Scaldera is the boss of is the Earth Temple, not the Fire Temple…

What do you think? Lemme know if there are any dissenters, aye?

Reblog if you’d pay more than $100 for the Skyward Sword bundle

Because in Japan it costs the equivalent of $115…

And it’s STILL pre-selling like crazy.
